Position Summary:
Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE) aides in our District are high-energy, passionate about our students' growth and development, and engage in culturally responsive behaviors to ensure that all students' academic, health, and wellness needs are met.
Through ECSE, the aide will assist the teacher with carrying out daily tasks designed to help students achieve both socially and academically.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Assist the classroom teacher in planning and implementing instructional activities
- Assist with tutoring, testing, small group instruction and supervising study groups
- Supervision of students during lunch and recess periods, assemblies, field trips and other activities as assigned
- Prepare, develop, and construct instructional materials, bulletin boards and other classroom aids
- Assist in administering, scoring and recording tests, checking notebooks, classroom assignments and homework; performing routine record keeping tasks and conducting guided practices activities
- Serve as a resource for substitute teachers, as needed
- Observe student behavior and assist in correcting minor problems and reporting difficulties to the teacher
- Assist in operating instructional equipment
- Assist with toileting and supporting students with self-help skills
- Clean and sanitize tables, toys, instructional materials, and other areas as appropriate
- Maintain the confidentiality of information about students at all times
- Perform other related duties as assigned

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
The qualifications noted below are required to enable the employee to perform the essential duties/responsibilities of this position.
- 2 year or 4 year degree in Education preferred
- Experience working with school age children in a school setting
- Teaching experience or equivalent in an urban environment
- Superior interpersonal relationship skills
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Sufficient vision to read printed material, see distant objects with clarity, and identify and distinguish objects
- Sufficient hearing to hear conversations in person and on the telephone, and hear sounds clearly up to 30 feet
- Ability to speak in an understandable voice with sufficient volume to be heard in normal conversation and on the telephone, and in addressing groups
- Ability to exert up to 25 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects
- This position requires standing, walking, sitting, bending and reaching for extended periods of time
- Sufficient manual dexterity and/or mobility to grasp and/or manipulate objects, operate mechanical equipment, and move about the work area
- This position will subject the employee to work environments that have exposure to weather or interiors with extremes of heat and/or cold, wet and/or humid conditions, high noise levels, and various work related hazards
