Position Purpose:
Develop students' skills and competence in one or more aspects of computer sciences; develops students skills and abilities in coding and web design methods and problem-solving, as well as an understanding of the application of computer sciences in the solution of practical problems.
This highly effective and AMAZING teacher will:
- Develop and administer PLTW Gateway Computer Sciences curriculum and other computer-based, technology courses, including web design and introductory robotics
- Promote a safe and conducive classroom environment for individualized and small group instruction and student learning
- Develop lesson plans and instructional materials that promote critical and creative thinking and analysis
- Translate lesson plans into learning experiences
- Develop pertinent sequential assignments that challenge students
- Instruct students in properly using and caring for computer equipment
- Conduct ongoing assessment of student learning and progress, and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student's needs, including students with special needs; conduct individual and small group instruction as needed
- Maintain familiarity with district and Missouri standardized tests for the purpose of adapting curriculum to maximize student achievement on such tests
- Continuously engage in professional learning for the elevation of curriculum delivery
- Organize and maintain a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievements, and attendance as required by district procedures
- Welcome and encourage parental involvement and ensure effective communication with stakeholders
- Support computer science week within SDUC
- Effectively engage students at high levels to encourage a focus on academics
Qualifications:
- Middle School Certification for grades 5-9
- Bachelors from an accredited college or university in education discipline applicable to teaching assignment
- Master's degree preferred
- Experience teaching PLTW Gateway Courses, Vex Robotics and/or code.org curriculum preferred
