The Adult Education & Literacy Orientation Teacher plans, coordinates and implements orientation of all new AEL participants.

 

Successful candidates will, at minimum, have:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • AEL certification
  • Previous work experience with students and adults in an urban environment
  • Previous experience with electronic and manual record keeping

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Mitigates all components of orientation as reported by the program coordinator, students and/or visitors
  • Maintains accurate records of assessment and enrollment data related to the AEL program
  • Utilizes strategies to appropriately diffuse emergency situations involving staff, students, parents and community members.
  • Prepares student data reports for AEL faculty and staff
  • Interacts positively with AEL staff, students, parents, and community members
  • Performs all other duties as assigned by the Program Coordinator

PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES 

  • Knowledge of the Tests of Adult Basic Education (TABE) and Comprehensive Adult and Student Assessment System (CASAS) examinations
  • Ability to navigate CASAS and Teaching of Programs and Students (TOPS) Pro software
  • Knowledge and experience with computer applications

  • Sufficient vision to read printed material, see distant objects with clarity, and identify and distinguish objects
  • Sufficient hearing to hear conversations in person and on the telephone, and hear sounds clearly up to 20 feet
  • Ability to speak in an understandable voice with sufficient volume to be heard in normal conversation and on the telephone, and in addressing groups
  • Ability to exert up to 40 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects
  • This position requires standing, walking, sitting, bending, running and reaching for extended periods of time
  • Sufficient manual dexterity and/or mobility to grasp and/or manipulate objects, operate mechanical equipment, and move about the work area
  • This position will subject the employee to work environments that have exposure to weather or interiors with extremes of heat and/or cold, wet and/or humid conditions, high noise levels, and various work related hazards
