Position Summary: Mitigates primary language barriers for English Language Learners (ELL).
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Assists with identifying K through 12 students who meet eligibility standards for ELL services.
- Recommends entry and exit of students from the ELL program based on criteria established by District, state and federal guidelines
- Monitors the achievement of all ELL students to ensure success in mainstream classroom environments
- Prepares ELL student data reports for District administration, faculty, and staff
- Interacts positively with EEL staff, students, parents, and community members
- Conducts ELL professional development and training sessions for administration, faculty, and staff
- Plans, prepares and delivers lessons for students based on available research of ELL best practices
- Maintains open, effective and timely communication with ELL parent/guardians
- Reviews and revises the ELL curriculum according to District, state and federal requirements
- Selects and provides resources and materials proven to assist ELL students to enhance English proficiency, e.g., hardware, software, texts, virtual/distance learning, etc.
- Performs all other duties as assigned by the Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum & Instruction and building principal
PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of federal and state mandated English proficiency examinations
- Ability to diffuse the level of frustration experienced by ELL students
- Knowledge and experience with computer applications
- Ability to establish partnerships with community and civic organizations who can serve as a resource for the District’s ELL program
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree and MO ESOL certification, Master’s Degree preferred
- Previous work experience or equivalent with ELL students in a diverse educational environment preferred
- Previous experience with ELL electronic and manual record keeping preferred
